A common mistake people make when trying to build up their credit is applying for new credit too rapidly. Many people apply for a card and get approved (or denied) and then go to apply at another bank or retail store.
When you get approved for a credit card, Do not go and apply for more credit rapidly and randomly. ONLY APPLY FOR NEW CREDIT WHEN YOU NEED IT, try not to apply for credit more than 2x a year.
Eventually, you will need to apply for credit for a car or a house. Don’t get turned down because you opened too many random accounts recently. The credit reporting agencies will state your credit history is TOO NEW TO RATE or ACCOUNT HISTORY TOO SHORT or NUMBER OF RECENT INQUIRIES and that makes you a higher credit risk; which leads to a DENIED application.
